Flashes of Hope -- February 2008

We finally received our pictures from our February Flashes of Hope session. It took so long because the picture disk was misplaced. Sawyer was cranky that day and did not want his picture taken. We did get a few good shots, though.
The photographer tried using bubbles to get Sawyer's attention. He was still cranky, though.
Now Sawyer's interested in the bubbles.

Sawyer's 25 month old bear picture--June 8, 2008
On June 14th, we headed to the Shenandoah's to go hiking. I love this picture of Terry and Hunter. Best buds.

We made it to the top. Bridger and Makenna showing off their mummified Barbies. They sure had fun doing this project.
The other day Sawyer was being very quiet. I went to investigate and here's what I found. I love the fact that all of my kids LOVE books!

June 2008 -- Mummies, Swimming and Cows

We talked so much about mummies last week that Sawyer pretended to be one. While I was folding clothes, he kept wrapping himself in this sheet and telling me that he was a mummy. After putting away the clothes, I found Sawyer like this.
Bridger had his very first swim meet on Wednesday, June 18. He was awesome! He came away with a first place in the freestyle, first place in a relay and 2nd place in the backstroke. The first place backstroke winner was 2 years older than Bridger and Bridger almost beat him. Way to go, Bridger! Bridger's coach pulled me aside a couple of days ago (so almost a week after this first meet) and told me that he is very impressed with Bridger. He said Bridger has an amazing kick! On Saturday, June 21st we visited the Cows n' Corn Farm in Midland, VA. We had a great time seeing all the animals and learning a lot about cows. We even went on a 30 min. hayride tour of the dairy farm.
After the hayride, we attended "Cow School" and learned even more about cows. Did you know that cows do not have any top teeth? The kids loved getting up close and personal with a cow.
We even made some butter. Shake, shake, shake...

Mommy had a friend come to visit over the weekend. Sawyer wanted a turn at holding her almost 3 month old baby. Sawyer kept saying, "She's so cute."

June 6, 2008 Sawyer's Ice-Skating Adventure

Bridger and Makenna's elementary school had an ice-skating party last night. Terry took the three old kids. This was Hunter's first time to go ice-skating. He did really well and by the end of the session, he was skating pretty without the "walker"--I really have no idea what those are called.
Sawyer and I were supposed to stay home and get some church work done. When the kids were getting their gloves on, Sawyer wanted a pair on. He cried and cried when everyone left and kept coming to me saying, "I skate. I skate." He wanted to be with the rest of the gang. I thought it would be fun to get pictures of Hunter's first time skating, so we headed to the rink. Sawyer was ready to go right out on the ice. Thankfully, I found some other things to keep him occupied. He still wouldn't take those gloves off, though.
We went outside for a walk and found the ice from the Zamboni. Sawyer ran to it screaming, "Build snowman. Build snowman." (Oh, before we found the "snow," Sawyer did some Power Ranger moves on some older teens outside. They got a kick out of him, literally. They loved his rendition of the Batman song as well.)
He picked up some "snow" to throw it and shouted, "Snowball fight." I was quite impressed with his little snow phrases--good memory from his small snow experiences this winter or from the many books we've read.
We went outside later to watch the Zamboni drop another load. Exciting!

Sawyer really wanted to get out on the ice so when about 30 minutes were left in the session, I asked if they would let Sawyer give the ice a try. They even had some skates small enough for him. Sawyer was SO excited to get his skates on.
Terry and Sawyer just before hitting the rink.
Sawyer didn't care for this "walker." He wanted to be free--actually, he wanted Terry to completely let go of him. Sawyer just wants to grow up too quickly.

This is much better at least Sawyer thinks. Terry's back was killing by the end.

Such a big boy on his skates!
The gang after Terry and Sawyer finished "one more time" around the rink. (Sawyer was so cute when he walked up to Terry, held up his pointer finger and begged, "One more time!"--Yes, he was actually walking on his skates with very little help--Amazing!--In fact, he wanted me to get completely away from him. But, of course, I couldn't do that.) Hunter wasn't too excited about having his picture taken. He was tired and wet from all the sliding around he did.
Sawyer was SO tired when we got home. He crashed! If you think about it, we were almost out until 10 p.m. and Sawyer was going strong that whole time! His skin's actually looking a little better.
Makenna and Bridger both had sore feet so they soaked them in Epsom salt while reading some books.

June 4, 2008 "We the People"

Just had to share some pictures from the past two days of filming. Here's Makenna right before heading to get her hair done.
Makenna standing in front of the John Adams set. Yes, everything is fake even the tree.
Our beautiful colonial girl.
On day 2 (Tuesday) Makenna got to do a garden scene with one of her friends.
It started to rain so the crew had to hold umbrellas over the girls. When the rain got worse, they put up a tent.

ENT Follow Up Visit-- June 3, 2008

Trying out the chair in Dr. Pena's office.
Waiting with my cool sunglasses on. I wore them upside down when we first arrived. All the staff got a kick out of me.
Showing off some of my itchy eczema. The camera doesn't do it justice-it actually looks a lot worse.

More eczema...
