Halloween 2007

The 1-3 grade classes were having a hoedown today. The kids were supposed to dress like farmers. Here's Farmer Bridger ready to head to school. Sawyer found an extra hat and wanted it on as well. (Tamma, Sawyer received so many comments about his shirt today. Thanks!)
The Johnston 4 before heading to school today.

Treatment # 8 (Chemo # 2 of 2nd Six Weeks--Oct. 30)

Waiting to be called back to have my port accessed.
Patiently waiting for the doctor to come examine me-my port has already been accessed. (Mommy was hoping to get a picture of me "feeding" my little pirate figurine. I would lift up my shirt a bit, grab my line and put the blue tip in the pirate's mouth and make sucking noises. Cute!)
Getting the line ready for my chemo.
Receiving chemo # 8.

Trunk or Treat -- Oct. 27, 2007

The Johnston Four getting ready to head to the church to trunk-or-treat. Hunter's Spiderman. The rest of Makenna's costume is in the car-I can't remember what she is. She came up with her own costume this year-fine by me as it saved $$$. Sawyer's a tiger and Bridger's Dracula.
(For those of you who don't know what trunk-or-treating is...it's where the kids go trick-or-treating from car trunk to car trunk. This has been a tradition at church for quite sometime--definitely safer and the kids cover more ground in an hour. Several families gather in our church parking lot and hand out candy from the trunks of their cars. Some families even go all out and decorate their trunks and/or dress in costume as well...Terry really likes doing this. He was out of town this year so I just gave our bags of candy to another family so I could walk around with the kids.)
Our cute little tiger. Sawyer was SO excited to get his costume on and he LOVED looking at himself in the mirror. He especially liked it when I added the nose and whiskers.
Sawyer had no trouble catching on to the idea of going from car to car. (Who wouldn't when someone's giving you free candy.) Sometimes he even ran. Towards the end his bucket was getting so heavy that he had to drag it. I tried helping him but he insisted on carrying it himself.
Taking a break to try some candy. (It's fun times like these that we tend to forget that anything's wrong with Sawyer.)

Our Visit to John Hopkins in Baltimore -- Oct. 25, 2007

Waiting to see Dr. Arceci. This picture was taken soon after we arrived for our appointment.
The long wait...we ended up waiting TWO hours to see Dr. Arceci! Thankfully, I found the real playroom. (Daddy was excited, too, as you'll be able to see from the next picture.)
Playing video games with Daddy in the playroom.
Daddy keeps going and going while I take a milk break.
There were even pumpkins to decorate! I really enjoyed this!

John Hopkins cont.

Look at my concentration.
Part of my examination with one of the fellows.
Getting me dressed after my examination. This was probably one of the most thorough examinations I've had-they even checked every finger and toe!
Yes, I have a new shirt on! Checking out the sites from our 8th floor window. Daddy kept saying that Baltimore reminded him of Boston.

These are a few of my favorite things... (Oct. 2007)

I love trying on my sister's boots. Looks like I'm pointing at my port scar.
I make a cute cowboy--just need a hat.
I love looking at bugs. Here I am with a couple of friends.
I love helping Mom make muffins. I can even put the muffin cups in all by myself.
I love vacumming, too!

Treatment # 7 (Oct. 15)

Sawyer loved the large window in the lobby. He was a bit surprised to find no toys and no art table in this waiting room.
This little cupboard kept Sawyer occupied while we were waiting in our room.

Taking a break after having his port accessed.

Treatment #7 (cont.)

Sawyer's site after being accessed and after blood was drawn. Sawyer's now relaxing, drinking his milk and falling asleep.
Our sleeping sweetie. Sure love the large window in our room.
Getting his chemo--Sawyer is one unhappy camper.

HAA Faces of Histio

Sawyer's picture has also been added to the HAA Faces of Histio. You can check this out by going to www.histio.org and clicking on "Faces of Histio" under Patients.

MRI -- Oct. 11, 2007

Notice the blood pressure cuff on my leg. I was not too thrilled about having my vitals taken.
Getting dressed in my gown.
A clean diaper sure feels nice.
Waiting...I don't think I have any idea what's going to be taking place today. I just know I don't like being at the hospital.
Playing peek-a-boo with Daddy. I would hide behind the curtain and then peek around.

MRI- continued

Playing with Daddy...he was trying to keep my mind off of food and milk!

Waiting for Sawyer to wake up.
Finally, some food! I loved this popsicle.

MRI- continued

Hugging my new chicken (the MRI nurse gave it to me) soon after waking up. You can see that the I.V. is still in.
Ouch! I was not too excited about having the nurse remove the I.V.
Enjoying chips on the way home. Mommy let me eat whatever I wanted.

More chips!

Thanks for praying for me!

I had to add this sweet picture of Sawyer. Last night when we called everyone over for family prayer, Sawyer walked over, kneeled and folded his arms. Of course, I had to have a picture because he was too cute! Well, I'm sure he wondered why I said, "It's time for prayer, " again when we had just had it. Too bad he didn't fold his arms as nicely as he did the first time, but he still looks so adorable in this picture!

Fun Evening (Oct. 4th, 2007)

This picture was actually taken a few days ago when we were working on our 72-hour kits. Sawyer loved climbing in all the bags.
Our fun walk last night... Bridger and Hunter took turns driving the jeep.

The Johnston Four. Getting a push from his big brothers. Sawyer did not like this one bit.

Of course, the kids wanted to stop at a pole. Hunter wanted to be on the pole as well. He was so mad that he couldn't make it to the top. I'm sure he'll be there one of these days. You can see Sawyer and his car in the background. He's actually near the frog hole. No frogs tonight, though.
